The Wayne Mediation Center was founded in 1987 as a program of New Detroit, Inc. In 1993 WMC was separately incorporated under an independent Board of Directors, and was granted 501 (c) 3 tax exempt status.

The Wayne Mediation Center provides alternative dispute resolution services throughout Wayne County. We rely primarily on a facilitated negotiation model, assisting individuals and groups to work through conflicts to a mutually acceptable agreement. In addition, we provide conflict management and peer mediation training programs for both professionals and lay persons. Our revenues come from contracts with the Michigan State Court Administrative Office and the City of Detroit, program service fees, and grants and contributions from Foundations and individuals.
